Jess Furlan

With a creative edge and global flair, Jessica Furlan is an inspired hairstylist. Renowned for her creative and collaborative approach, she is the personal Australian stylist to Baz Luhrmann and Catherine Martin when in Australia and collaborated with the Oscar winning duo on hair direction for the 2014 stage production of Strictly Ballroom. She also looks after Edwina McCann, Vogue Australia Editor, and was recently called upon to cut Mel Gibson’s hair.
Jessica practically grew up in a salon. She lived and worked in London and Europe for seven years after completing her apprenticeship at the iconic Darlinghurst Salon, Synergy under legendary director Sharon Maher. She then honed her skills abroad at Vidal Sassoon Academy Bond Street and Tommyguns Salon Shoreditch in London.
It was in the UK where she built an active affinity with the music festival scene resulting in styling the onstage looks of many leading musicians including Brandon Flowers from The Killers, Bryan Ferry, BRMC and Sixto Rodrigeuz.
Whilst overseas, she also regularly worked on leading fashion shows in London, Paris and Milan assisting superstar hairstylist Sam McKnight (working on French Vogue, UK Vogue, Elle and Harper's Bazaar) as well as alongside photographer Peter Lindbergh shooting Milla Jovovich, Kate Bosworth and Kate Moss. Jess has also shot for ID, Dazed and Confused, Show Studios, and ACNE Paper. She has personally style Dasha Zuhkova, Elle Macpherson and Pierce Brosnan.
Upon returning to Australia in 2012 Jessica has built a stellar reputation working at La Boutique for renowned colourist Belinda Jeffrey - for whom she represented in Hair Expo
2013. Her in-demand, effortless and modern style has resulted in many diverse experiences in television, film and fashion editorials.
Jess – whose top tip is to “embrace your natural hair texture” - continues to stay inspired by fashion, film, music, travel, nature and just walking down the street.
“It's the small things,” she says of what keeps her creativity flowing.
“Success to me is always pushing yourself to keep learning and surrounding yourself with others that bring out the best in you.”
