Get the Ultimate Tips From Your Hair Professionals
Let’s face it, frizzy hair is just downright annoying. If you’re a life-long sufferer, it can often seem like there’s nothing much you can do about it, especially during the winter months. But, the good news is, with a bit of proactive prevention and some extra love and care, you can (and will) avoid that frizz this winter.
So to help you to feel fabulous and frizz-free, here are some of our top tips and winter hair care products.
1) Avoid heat
Though the cold winter months leaves the rest of you craving a bit of heat, your hair can frankly do without it. Though you might think that straightening or blow-drying your hair will make it look less frizzy, it actually has the opposite effect by starving it of moisture.
Top tip: If you absolutely must straighten your hair to survive, make sure you apply some heat protecting product to it first.
2) Have a cold shower
Again, whilst every other part of your body craves nothing more than a nice long, hot shower, your hair will not thank you for it. Hot water isn’t good for your hair, whereas cold water can help seal the cuticles and keep it nice and shiny.
Top tip: If you really can’t stand a cold shower, try just having a quick blast of cold water right at the end instead.
3) Wash your hair less often
This might go against everything you have believed in so far in life, but actually washing your hair less is better for it. Your hair produces natural oils that keep it healthy and happy. Washing every day removes these oils and leaves your hair feeling malnourished. Instead, wash your hair every other day or once every three days if you can.
4) Don’t towel dry your hair
Stepping out of the shower and giving your hair a good rub with the towel seems like the most natural thing on earth, but unfortunately, that daily routine of yours is not doing you any favours. By rubbing your hair with a rough surface like this, you’re actually just lifting the cuticles and giving yourself an instant frizz-attack.
Top tip: Try squeezing your hair dry instead of rubbing it. And if possible, opt for soft cotton material instead of a rough towel. This is true for everyone, but it is definitely one of the more useful hair care tips for long hair!
5) Invest in the right products
Whether it’s a high quality, alcohol-free leave-in conditioner or a heat protection spray, using the right hair products is key. And the good news is, there are plenty of products out there which are made to prevent frizz. There are even some winter hair care products out there designed specifically to help with the winter frizz!
Top tip: Whenever possible, look for highly moisturising, natural ingredients such as Coconut oil, Argan oil, Shea butter and Jojoba oil.
6) Head in to the salon
Whilst changing some daily habits will certainly help, sometimes a nourishing hair treatment in a salon will make a world of difference. It doesn’t have to be on a weekly basis, but once in a while, getting some expert salon treatment for frizzy hair could help your hair to survive and even thrive this winter!
